Budget for Nicer Blinds

A mistake we see over and over again, is folks not paying attention to the remodel budget - till the end of the project - when it is time to pick the window coverings.  A good design will incorporate the very important window covering look of the windows into the overall concept.

There is nothing sadder to a window covering professional, then looking at a $50,000 kitchen and dining room remodel - only to see knock off faux wood blinds in the windows.  It cheapens the overall look, and happens more than you might imagine.  People run out of project money by the point its time to cover the windows, and then adding to the situation - the homeowners are often so frazzled by the re-model's upheaval they say - "what is cheapest."  End result, entire design effect is ruined.

Your windows are the source of light and view, and often are a big part of the wall area - and cheap looks cheap - so the atmosphere you had hoped to create is lost.  Often people can not even put their finger on why it isn't working, but more often than not it is the choice of window coverings.

Flip through a design magazine and notice the windows - they play a major role in the space.  Okay - so rant complete.  Now on to the solution:
  • Plan ahead and know for the project to turn out well - you must finish well - don't let up and stumble across the finish line.
  • If your budget is tight, reach out for a independent local window covering retailer who has 10 or more years experience.  Ask this professional to get you the best faux or wood blind product that will compliment the space on a limited budget.  If this individual is honest and cares, then they will help you find the sweet spot to finish your remodel well.
  • The little bit extra at the end will add a lot to your overall outcome - and generally, the best way to do that is to find a local retailer using a local fabricator - for the quality, price and the personal attention your project deserves.

The High End Look of Wood Blinds

For some, a high end wood blind look is exactly the interior design they desire.  While it is true, the vast majority of customers treat the wood and faux wood blind as a basic commodity - driving for the best price possible - it is also true that a customer exists that desires a beautiful and unique look that can only be provided by a rich stained wood.

These top of the line wood blinds come with premium stain finishes and are often distressed, bringing a real rustic yet modern look to any space.  For these projects, we are graced with the imperfect natural look of a wood product which creates a one of a kind design.  It is the knots and minor variations that present a look that, while similar, can not be exactly duplicated in another window, or for another customer.  It is these subtle differences that make the design - and it is completely random.

So, if you are one of those who like to play with the uniquely beautiful aspects of wood for your window coverings, then consider a high end premium wood blind.

We would love to work with you on your wood or faux wood blind project.  Also, for a rough idea of what your wood or faux wood project might cost - check out our online wood and faux wood blind cost calculator.

Here is a little design feature that you might not have known exists. Multi Color Slats- This is an upgrade allowing the use of two or more color of slat material to be used. Creating a stripe or stripes in the blind.

If you are having trouble deciding between window blind colors, consider using multi-colored window blinds for your home.  When you need more than one color for your window treatment to tie all of the colors of your room together, multi-colored blinds are a great solution.  Sometimes a combination of colors in a decorative pattern or blending will be better suited than simply one solid color.

This option is reserved with those whose design choices are bold and who have the confidence to break from tradition in their interior design look.  To that end, we would love to help you with your wood or faux wood blind project.  Also, for an estimate of what your wood or faux wood blind project might cost, please check out our online estimator.

Not all Valance Clips are Alike

As we have mentioned before, we offer many different brands of wood and faux wood blinds, all with slightly different applications and price points.  But without a doubt, we prefer to offer the wood and faux wood blinds that use the "California Clip" to hold the valance in place.  Unlike other clips, that are plastic and will become brittle overtime and fail, we have never seen a "California Clip" fail.  We are not even sure it can.

The California Clip is a hidden, metal valance clip that works by hooking onto the front of the 2" or 2 1/2" faux or wood blind head rail.  When ordered with an inside mount blind, the head rail needs to be installed so it projects outside of the window frame slightly, so that the 1/2" return will sit flush to the wall.

The ease of install and removal is remarkable.  The 1/2" returns give the valance a better look as it provides some depth to the finished look - and years later if you ever need to service your blind - the California clips will not break.  A great innovation for the old standby of the window covering industry.  So, do yourself a favor and get the blind with the California Clip - you will be glad you did.

We would love to help you with your wood or faux wood blind project.  Also, and for your convenience, we have provided an online cost estimator for your project.  Our cost estimator provides an estimate for blinds with the California clip.
